Wheatgrass Juicers

Different Wheatgrass Juicers

What is the best wheatgrass juicer?

In answering what is the best wheatgrass juicer there are a number of points to consider; those being:

1) How often do you juice and for how many people

2) How much do you intend to drink

3) How much time do you have

4) How much do you want to spend

5) Do you want to juice other fruits and vegetables

How often do you juice wheatgrass and for how many people?

This is an important question, because if you only juice for yourself then perhaps you are best to go with a simple manual option which is cheaper and easier to juice when compared to expensive juicers on the market. However if you are juicing for a household or a bunch of roommates you are likely to need a wheatgrass juicer with a bit more guts – otherwise you’ll find your standing there grinding out wheatgrass all night!

How much do you drink?

My partner and I drink roughly 60mls (2 shots) a day each – this pretty much results in juicing an entire tray of wheatgrass. As a result we found that the manual juicing took a little too long, especially on those nights when you don’t return from the office until 10pm+. Again if you are just starting out you are likely to juice a single shot 30mls a day so don’t stress if you don’t have the heavy cavalry.

How much time do you have?

If you have no limitations when it comes to time then by all means save yourself some money and go with the manual juicing option. However with a two year old running around my ankles and generally working 15hr days I tend to cherish every spare minute of my time so after a year of grinding away late at night for my daily fix I decided to upgrade and buy an electronic juicer. This has probably encouraged me to juice more because it is just so quick and easy.

How much do you want to spend?

If you have a limited budget then I strongly suggest going with the manual wheatgrass juicer. You can pick up a manual juicer between $55-$85 new and probably cheaper on EBay, Gumtree or any other second hand online retailer. Picking up a cheap juicer will allow you to try wheatgrass and see if you feel better for adopting it into your daily routine. If you have been using a manual juicer for a while now and are contemplating an upgrade then it may be time for you to buy an electronic juicer. In doing so, you may also be able to juice larger quantities and increase the amount of wheatgrass intake per day. Electric juicers can range anywhere between $200 – $600 and have a number of options available.

Do you want to juice other fruits and vegetables?

If you’re buying a juicer purely for juicing wheatgrass then you are safe with any of the juicing options. Just ensure that you purchase a cold press wheatgrass juicer, not a centrifugal juicer as you will struggle to get wheatgrass from the high speed spinning disk. Cold press juicers grind and squeeze the juice out of the grass or leafy vegetables which not only results in a higher amount of juice it results in less heat being produced in the juicing process. This results in less damage occurring to the juice enzymes and will allow you to store the juice for longer. If you are yet to purchase a juicer I suggest buying one that will allow you to juice fruit as well as vegetables. This gives you greater options and will allow you to experiment with different drinks and juice a lot more, resulting in a healthier and happier you!

The wheatgrass juicers that I own

Juicing shouldn’t be a complicated thing and deciding on what juicer shouldn’t be a complicated task. However when it came time to buy a juicer I found that I was a little like a deer in headlight with all the options.

Our family are big juicers and we actually have 3 juicers those being:

Manual juicer – price range between $55- $85

Pros: The juicer does a great job of extracting the juice out of leafy vegetables including spinach, kale and of course wheatgrass. Another real benefit to this juicer is that it is cheap – this really allows any top dick and harry to get into juicing wheatgrass without blowing their budget on expensive juicers.

The cons of this little baby is after a little while we found that the inner piece damages easy – regardless of how much pressure you out on this. See:

Also if you juicer all the time and look to juice say between 60-12mls per session this can take a fair while – about 10-15mins of grinding away in which can be tiring, resulting in juicing becoming more of a chore (which really it shouldn’t). In complete defence of manual juicers I would consider spending the extra money and buy a stainless steel manual juicer so you can really grind out the juice at much larger quantities. When looking for electronic juicers I found this one in the market and would have probably purchased this over the XXX if I knew what I do now.
